Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested as a suspect for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by Dallas Police on Sunday. Armstrong, 56, reportedly threatened to shoot the lady and struck her with a pistol after an altercation with the victim. After being arrested, the 56-year-old instructor was eventually freed on a $35,000 bond.

It appears that Armstrong and this lady were romantically involved, and the altercation began because of Armstrong’s possible adultery. Armstrong also smacked the victim across the cheek with a revolver, according to the complaint.

Reports reveal, “According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to a call at 1001 Ross Ave., an apartment complex in downtown Dallas, at about 2:15 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim at a nearby parking lot waiting with her father… Per the document, Armstrong then loaded the gun with a full magazine and said ‘I am going to shoot you…’”

Armstrong’s attorney, Larry Taylor, responded to the incident in a statement. Taylor stated, “We are in the preliminary stages of conducting our own independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s incident involving my client Darrell Armstrong. Mr. Armstrong has been an upstanding member of the Dallas community during his playing days and as a coach. We will have more to say about this incident in the coming days.”

Dallas Mavericks Issue Statement Following Assistant Coach Darrell Armstrong’s Arrest For Aggravated Assault

According to a statement issued by the Dallas Mavericks, Armstrong has been placed on administrative suspension while this inquiry is ongoing.

“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident. We take this matter seriously. The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings. This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.”

Since 2009, Armstrong has served as the team’s assistant coach. He was a point guard who spent 14 seasons in the NBA with six different teams. He was formerly a member of the Mavericks. In 1999, he won the Most Improved Player and Sixth Man of the Year awards. He was also a member of the Mavericks team that qualified for the NBA Finals for the first time in 2006.

Mavericks assistant coach Marko Milic recently left due to Luka Doncic being traded. After the arrest of Darrell Armstrong, it’ll be a major setback for the team. Dallas Mavericks currently stands at the 8th spot in the West with a 30-26 record.
