Sheryl Swoopes exposed by WNBA fans
Swoopes, who has never shied away from expressing her opinions, especially when it comes to Clark, has drawn attention for her conspicuous silence during a recent broadcast.
Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever’s star rookie, is having an exceptional season, continuing to break records and silence her critics.
Most recently, she tied the record for most three-pointers made by a rookie, matching Atlanta Dream’s Rhyne Howard with 85.
Despite the gravity of this achievement, Swoopes remained silent on air during a 50-second window when her co-commentator Ron Thulin highlighted Clark’s accomplishment, opting instead to discuss the game when play resumed.
This silence was noted by Clark’s fans, who quickly uploaded the clip, sparking further conversation about Swoopes’ apparent reluctance to credit the young star.
Sheryl Swoopes’ continues throwing shade at Caitlin Clark
This isn’t the first time Swoopes has been accused of downplaying Clark’s contributions to the Fever’s success.
On a recent episode of her “Queens of the Court” podcast, Swoopes praised three Indiana Fever players-Lexie Hull, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston-for their roles in the team’s recent success, but notably excluded Clark from the conversation.
Clark has been instrumental in the Fever’s resurgence post-Olympic break, averaging 25 points, nine assists, and five rebounds per game, while also breaking the rookie record for most assists in a season.
Her performance has been a driving force behind the Fever surpassing their 2023 win total with 10 games left in the season, yet the accolades from some of the league’s veterans seem to be selectively absent.
The omission didn’t go unnoticed by ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith, who criticized Swoopes for not giving Clark the credit she deserves.
“No matter how great you were as a player, Sheryl Swoopes, there is no woman who should negate mentioning Caitlin Clark and what she is doing for the game,”Smith remarked on his YouTube channel.
As Clark continues to rack up accolades and lead her team to new heights, the ongoing one-sided feud with Swoopes raises questions about the dynamics within the WNBA and the recognition of new talent.
Despite the silence from some corners, Clark’s impact on the game and her team’s success is undeniable, and her fan base only continues to grow stronger
