Sophie Cunningham is a pro on and off the court, giving fans what they want.
The Phoenix Mercury guard certainly knows how to shoot the ball and stay fashionable with her outfits.
Cunningham became a fan favorite this past WNBA season due to her sharpshooting on the court and her fashion off it.
This week, she took to her Instagram story and posted a picture of herself in her workout gear, relaxing in a sauna.
SCunningham was one of many women who took advantage of the increased attention from this past year as mini-fashion shows went viral before every regular season game.
“The outfits that have went really viral, my mom has actually picked them out,” Cunningham told the New York Post. “It’s been really fun because now (my family) is on all the outfits. And trust me, my family is like, ‘Oh, gosh, what’s Sophie gonna wear today?’ It’s just like a running joke.”
Phoenix Mercury Signed Sophie Cunningham To Contract Extension
The Phoenix Mercury knows the value of guard/forward Sophie Cunningham, which is why they signed her up for a contract extension through the 2025 season.
Cunningham, a six-year WNBA veteran who has played her entire career in Phoenix, has been a staple of the team since her emergence. Now, they are showing her loyalty by ensuring that she is with the team for the following year.
“Phoenix has become my home away from home, and I am so thrilled to be in the Valley and continue to get to play in front of the best fans in the W – the X-Factor,” Cunningham said in a statement. “The investments Mat is making in our organization are unmatched, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of what we are building here, on the court and in the community.”
Cunningham averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game for the Mercury. She started 21 of 40 games for the Mercury.
If Cunningham can build off the success she had in 2024, it’s possible she’ll receive yet another extension from the Mercury.
In order for Cunningham to secure long-term security, she will have to continue to do what she does and improve even more so the team can get back to making a run through the postseason as they once did.
With the retirement of Diana Taurasi, Cunningham might have that shot in 2025.
