Outspoken podcaster Megyn Kelly has called for a boycott of Taylor Swift following the pop star’s attendance at a fundraiser that provided humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Swift, who was named Time’s “Person of the Year” after her “Eras Tour” became the first to exceed a billion dollars in revenue, attended comedian Ramy Youssef’s “More Feelings” tour at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Friday. Proceeds from the event went to the non-governmental organization American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA), which supports humanitarian relief in Gaza amid ongoing conflict.
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Kelly criticized Swift for attending the event and suggested that she owes an apology to Israelis and Jewish Americans. Kelly called for a boycott of Swift’s events until such an apology is issued, arguing that Swift’s participation in the fundraiser was inappropriate.
Podcast guest Andrew Klavan expressed skepticism that Swift would face significant backlash due to her influence, noting that he doesn’t look to pop stars for political insights and wished they would focus on their music instead.
Kelly contended that Swift’s involvement in the comedy show was serious, alleging that ANERA is highly political and presents a biased view of the Israel-Palestine conflict. However, ANERA’s website clarifies that it does not coordinate with Hamas, which is designated by the U.S. government as a terrorist organization.
Kelly further criticized Swift, suggesting she is unaware of the conditions in Gaza. Swift’s fans defended her, arguing that attending a comedy show does not equate to actively supporting Gaza and pointing out that other celebrities who attended the show, such as Selena Gomez and Anya Taylor-Joy, have not faced similar criticism.
Andrew Klavan commented on Taylor Swift, saying, “She’s a likable pop star, and all I can say is I don’t turn to my pop stars for political wisdom. I wish they would shut up and sing,” referencing her high-profile romance with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, which has expanded her fan base.
Kelly insisted that Swift’s attendance at the comedy show was serious, claiming that ANERA is highly political, presenting a biased view of the Israel-Palestine conflict, ignoring Palestinian responsibility for hardship, and contributing to the demonization of Israel.
However, ANERA’s website states that it does not work with or coordinate with Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government.
Kelly criticized Swift for supporting a fundraiser associated with ANERA, urging her to research human rights issues in Gaza. She suggested that Swift should refrain from discussing such issues if she is uninformed.
Swift’s supporters argued that attending a comedy show does not equate to actively supporting Gaza and emphasized that Youssef, who organized the event, is the one directly supporting Gaza.
Oп Nov. 15,
Youssef stated on Instagram that “100% of the proceeds” from the rest of his stand-up tour would be donated to the American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA), which provides humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza.
A third fan responded, “What is this? Unless Swift is donating, the credit should go solely to Youssef, who is the one actually donating to people in Gaza.”
Other X users noted that other celebrities who attended the comedy show, including Selena Gomez, Anya Taylor-Joy, Zoë Kravitz, and Cara Delevingne, were not facing the same criticism.
