Sunday’s 92-75 Indiana Fever win over the Seattle Storm wasn’t without a bit of controversy, which seemed to involve rookie point guard Caitlin Clark on more than one occasion.
With less than a minute-and-a-half left in the game, and the Fever comfortably ahead, Clark started waving her arms up and down to hype up the crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse — prompting a Storm player to shoulder charge her from behind.
But that wasn’t the only thing Clark did to rile up her opponents. A video started making the rounds on social media not long after the game showing members of both the Fever and Storm jawing back and forth with 3.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Clark was visibly upset at whatever was being said, as she had to be held back by her coaches and teammates. It appeared as though she started to cool off before turning around and yelling “stop crying” toward the Storm bench.
The tension between the two teams didn’t end there, however.
As the clock winded down to the final whistle, Storm head coach Noelle Quinn approached Fever head coach Christie Sides and gave her an earful.
Quinn as apparently upset that Sides kept her starters in with such a big lead and didn’t substitute anyone from her bench during her final timeout. She didn’t go into details about what was said during her post-game news conference, only stating she and Sides had a “spirited conversation about gamesmanship.”
