The Kansas City Chiefs might be about to go under a significant amount of roster reconstruction with Xavier Worthy hinting at big players leaving the team this offseason with Travis Kelce’s uncertain

The Kansas City Chiefs are facing an intriguing offseason after losing the Super Bowl in heartbreaking fashion to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs were dominated throughout the game, with their bench looking shocked at what was unfolding as they struggled to limit Jalen Hurts while Patrick Mahomes was not able to operate his offense. The Eagles eventually came out as winners by a scoreline of 40-22, with the Chiefs scoring two touchdowns late in the game.

Afterwards, Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy made some interesting quotes, suggesting a number of key players will leave the team this offseason. He said: “I would just like to thank the guys in my room. This might be my last time playing with them.

“Some of them, it might be their last game. Trades happen. These guys really helped me out a lot, just on my development as a man and as a player in this league.

“This knowledge they gave me to learn and keep building my rookie year, I just really appreciate them for that… I have to give the credit to the guys in this room, even Trav and Pat.”

Here, Mirror U.S. Sports has listed five players who’s future looks to be uncertain heading into the offseason with the Chiefs needing to make some moves if they’re to be competing back in the AFC next year.

Travis Kelce

In the days leading up to the game on Sunday, reports started to surface that Kelce’s future in the NFL is incredibly uncertain. The legendary pass-catcher will go down as one of the greatest tight ends of all-time, but is coming off-the-back of his worst statistical season in the league.

Kelce has one more year on his contract, but could forego that to call it a day after a year in which looked to see his age catch up with him. Many had noted that Kelce had looked slower coming out of his routes this season.

Patrick Mahomes addressed the prospect of him retiring after the game, while Kelce himself dodged questions on his future.

Trey Smith

Arguably one of the best players on their roster, Smith is set to become a free agent and will likely command around $25 million per year – something that the Chiefs will struggle to match.

Kansas City has already given significant contracts to three of their offensive lineman in Jawaan Taylor, Joe Thuney and Creed Humphrey, and will almost certainly look to get cheaper at guard.

Nick Bolton

The Chiefs’ defensive captain and green dot wearer, Bolton is another player who will hit the open market and likely ask for a significant pay rise.

Kansas City has a capable back-up in Leo Chenal who they’ll hope can replace Bolton should they walk away, in a position that has been devalued by many teams in the league in recent years. It remains to be seen how much the Chiefs will allocate to the position, and whether they’ll match offers that are sure to come in for Bolton.

Justin Reid

Another leader on the Chiefs’ defense, Reid has been integral in what they have been able to do under coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has ran. Reid has spent three years with the team, winning two Super Bowl’s and playing strongly in their loss to the Eagles.

The safety market is another that has been devalued by front offices in recent years, which might allow the Chiefs to bring Reid back on a lesser deal than many will argue he’s worth.

DeAndre Hopkins

One of the best wide receivers of the past decade, Hopkins looks to be coming close to the end of his career after struggling to make much of an impact with the Chiefs after joining midseason.

Hopkins had moments this season, including a touchdown and two-point conversion in the Super Bowl… but he’s unlikely to sign a significant deal this offseason. He could re-join the Chiefs as a depth player.
