On Sunday, Caitlin Clark bid an emotional farewell to her Indiana Fever teammate Temi Fagbenle, who is leaving the team after being selected by the Golden State Valkyries in the WNBA Expansion Draft.

The center, who played a pivotal role for the Fever this season, took to social media to thank her teammates and fans for their support.

In a post shared with a highlight clip from a game against the Connecticut Sun, Fagbenle expressed her gratitude.

“Thank you for a great season @IndianaFever. To my teammates: we had a season of revelations and growth,” she posted.

“So proud of all y’all for persevering. Thank you for lifting me and each other. F the noise. Keep growing together.

“Thank you for the consistent energy, Indy fans. Y’all are solid. Very grateful. Very blessed.”

Caitlin Clark, who had an excellent on-court partnership with Fagbenle, responded in the comments with a heartfelt message.

“Love ya tem! Gonna miss you,” she wrote, followed by a heart emoji.

Key contributor to Fever’s Success

Fagbenle’s departure comes after a strong season with the Fever, where she formed a dynamic duo with Clark. The 6’4″ center had a significant impact in pick-and-roll situations, contributing 21 field goals from Clark’s assists, and helping the team reach their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Despite being limited to 22 games due to injuries, Fagbenle averaged a career-high 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.

The Fever’s playoff run was fueled by Fagbenle’s presence alongside Clark, and while they were ultimately eliminated by the Connecticut Sun, the team’s performance was a testament to their resilience and growth throughout the season.

As Fagbenle transitions to the Golden State Valkyries, she joins an expansion team that will begin play in the 2024-25 season. The Valkyries, based in the Bay Area, have a roster of 11 players, including Fagbenle and six international teammates. The team will be coached by Natalie Nakase, and they are eager to make their mark in their inaugural year.

While her time with the Fever was relatively short, Fagbenle’s contributions and her bond with Clark will not be forgotten. As she embarks on this new chapter, Fagbenle is expected to continue making an impact in the WNBA with the Valkyries.
