It’s been over two decades since Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson last shared a boxing ring, but their rivalry still echoes through the halls of combat sports history. For fans, those two legendary bouts-one a decisive victory for Holyfield and the other marred by Tyson’s infamous ear bite-are etched into the annals of boxing lore. Now, with the sport’s trend of exhibition matchups bringing back iconic names, Holyfield is calling for one last showdown with Iron Mike.

At 62 years old, Holyfield has been largely out of the spotlight, his last official fight dating back to 2011. Meanwhile, Tyson has remained active in the exhibition circuit, including his recent eight-round bout against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul. But the idea of rekindling their rivalry seems to have reignited a spark in Holyfield, who took to Instagram to issue a challenge on Monday.

“The fans want it #unfinishedbusiness,”Holyfield posted alongside a mock promotional flyer for a potential third fight. Tyson, now 58, responded with a heartfelt yet ambiguous reply, saying, “I love you, brother, but the trilogy is our friendship.” While Tyson’s words suggest he may not be interested in revisiting the past inside the ring, Holyfield’s public challenge has undoubtedly stirred excitement among fans.

Holyfield holds a 2-0 record against Tyson, including their explosive 1996 WBA heavyweight title bout and the unforgettable 1997 rematch. Despite their tumultuous history, the two have reconciled over the years, forging a bond rooted in mutual respect. But Holyfield’s latest push for a trilogy raises the question: Is there still unfinished business to settle?

Trilogy talks and missed opportunities: Will Tyson vs. Holyfield ever happen?

This isn’t the first time a third fight between the two has been teased. Back in 2021, talks of a potential bout gained momentum, with Holyfield expressing confidence that it would happen. However, negotiations ultimately fell apart, leaving fans wondering what could have been. Holyfield went on to fight former UFC champion Vitor Belfort in an exhibition later that year, but the result left much to be desired.

Tyson, on the other hand, has continued to dabble in exhibition matches, demonstrating his enduring star power. Following his fight with Jake Paul, Tyson hinted at a potential matchup with Paul’s brother, Logan, showing that he’s still willing to step into the ring under the right circumstances.

For Holyfield, the allure of a trilogy fight isn’t just about settling an old score-it’s about giving fans a nostalgic trip back to boxing’s golden era. While Tyson seems more focused on forging new paths in the sport, the prospect of one final clash between these two icons is hard to ignore.

The ball now rests in Tyson’s court. Whether the trilogy remains a fantasy or becomes a reality, one thing is certain: the legacy of Holyfield vs. Tyson is already immortal. But as Holyfield’s Instagram post proves, there’s always room for one last chapter in this storied rivalry.
