Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese announced on Saturday, September 7, that her WNBA rookie season is over.
“What a year,” Reese began in her heartfelt message on X. “I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2 lol.”
The Sky confirmed this news in an official injury announcement:
“After undergoing further medical evaluation after the September 6 game against Los Angeles, Angel Reese has been ruled out for the rest of the 2024 season with a wrist injury, the team announced today. The team will provide medical updates later as needed.”
Sending a message to Reese under her announcement on Instagram, Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson commented with two heart emojis.
Wilson is the favorite to win WNBA MVP this season. The Aces star is second in the WNBA in rebounding (11.9/G), trailing only Reese (13.1/G) in that category.
While this announcement from Reese is heartbreaking from an individual standpoint, it is also a major blow to Chicago. Snapping their seven-game losing streak with a win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday, Chicago kept their hold on the eighth and final WNBA playoff spot.
If the Sky end up making the WNBA playoffs, they will be without their All-Star rookie forward.
