On Tuesday, October 29, Ward took to social media to announce the loss of his daughter, Amani Joy, who he adored with his girlfriend, Monique Cook.

Amani Joy was just one year old and would have turned two next month.

In his heartfelt Instagram tribute, accompanied by a tender photograph of Amani, the 49ers star expressed the profound impact his daughter had on their lives. “We are heartbroken that our beautiful baby girl, Amani Joy passed away on Monday morning. She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyous spirit made us smile from ear to ear,” Ward wrote.

He continued to reflect on the lessons Amani brought into their lives: “She taught us to have patience, trust, and a positive outlook on life. She showed us true strength and bravery. She overcame adversity at a young age and was always happy, lighting up every room with her smile.”

Ward’s message concluded with a touching note about the indelible mark Amani left on their hearts: “Having the privilege of being her parents and seeing the world through her eyes has changed us for the better. She will forever be daddy’s best friend and mommy’s little girl. We’ll miss you and love you forever, Amani Joy.”

The San Francisco 49ers organization also expressed their condolences, emphasizing Amani’s infectious joy and the profound sadness of her tragic passing.

“The 49ers family is devastated by the sudden passing of Charvarius Ward’s beloved one-year-old daughter, Amani Joy,” their statement read. “Amani truly embodied pure happiness and brought joy to all those around her with her sweet demeanor and contagious laugh.”

Earlier this year, Ward celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by sharing photos of Amani, highlighting her joy and the lessons she taught him about love and acceptance.

“Amani Joy Ward has been the best blessing I could’ve asked for. I used to think Down Syndrome was a handicap but now I realize it is just a gift from God,” he shared, adding how his daughter’s condition reshaped his perspective and brought immense joy into their lives.

Ward also revealed that Amani underwent heart surgery after being diagnosed with Down Syndrome, showcasing her resilience and strength. “Amani is filled with pure joy & a contagious laugh. My baby makes me smile from ear to ear every time I see her. November 17, 2022, a star was born. We love you AMANI JOY.”

Our thoughts go out to Ward, Cook, and their loved ones at this time.
