Last August, Kai Trump, the oldest granddaughter of President Donald Trump, verbally committed to play college golf at the University of Miami. Three days ago, the junior on the Benjamin School’s girls golf team in Palm Beach, Florida, joined Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines as he hosted the Genesis Invitational in La Jolla, California.
Kai Trump may be making a lot more visits to the San Diego area because, as she announced recently on social media, she has signed an endorsement deal with TaylorMade Golf.
In addition to having players like Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, Nelly Korda, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa on its staff, TaylorMade also has a stable of content creators and influencers like Grant Horvat and Barstool’s Fore Play.
College golfers routinely get free equipment from manufacturers who hope that if the player turns pro, he or she will stick with the brand. However, today’s college players can be paid for the use of their name, image and likeness (NIL) and those deals can be extremely lucrative. In the case of Kai Trump, who has more than 5.4 million combined followers on social media, On3, an outlet that tracks athlete’s NIL value, estimates Trump’s is more than $1 million.
