Elon Musk may jokingly refer to himself as “tech support” for President Donald Trump, but in a recent joint interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump clarified the billionaire’s real job in the federal government: cutting through bureaucracy and ensuring his executive orders are implemented effectively.
During their highly anticipated conversation, Trump and Musk shared insights into their unusual yet powerful partnership. Trump, known for his bold leadership style, stated that he brought Musk into his administration for one simple reason: “I couldn’t find anyone smarter.”
Musk’s Real Role: Leading the Fight Against Government Waste
Musk is currently leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a new agency established by Trump to eliminate unnecessary government spending, detect fraud, and reduce waste of taxpayer dollars. Since its inception, DOGE has already canceled billions in contracts awarded to private firms through the Department of Education and the National Institutes of Health.
One of DOGE’s most notable discoveries this month was a shocking revelation regarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which had allocated $59 million to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants. This led to swift action—a clawback order from the Department of Homeland Security and the firing of four high-ranking FEMA financial officials.
Trump and Musk lobbed compliments back-and-forth during their joint interview aired on Fox News on Tuesday evening
Musk, appearing in a black t-shirt with bold white lettering reading “Tech Support,” explained his role in the administration. “I think the way to think of me is like, I’m a technologist, and I try to make technologies that improve the world,” he said.
He elaborated further, stating that while Trump signs executive orders with the intention of creating meaningful change, many of them go unimplemented due to bureaucratic inertia. Musk’s job, he claimed, is to “make sure they actually happen.”
Trump Praises Musk’s Leadership in Government Overhaul
Trump was quick to highlight Musk’s effectiveness in ensuring policy implementation. “You write an executive order, and you think it’s done,” Trump explained. “But it doesn’t get done. It doesn’t get implemented. What he does is he takes it, and with his 100 geniuses… he gets it done.”
The former president went on to say that Musk’s ability to “cut through the nonsense” is exactly what his administration needs. “Some bureaucrat who doesn’t want to implement an order suddenly finds himself signing off on it,” Trump said.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has already signed over 200 executive orders, with Musk ensuring that many of the most critical ones are enforced.
Backlash Over Musk’s Influence
Not everyone is pleased with Musk’s growing role in the federal government. Critics argue that Musk was not elected and should not be wielding such significant influence over national policies. Liberals have accused Trump of handing over too much power to the billionaire entrepreneur, arguing that the American people did not vote for Musk to be a decision-maker in government affairs.
Despite the controversy, Trump remains firm in his decision. “He’s a brilliant guy, he’s a great guy. He’s got tremendous imagination. But he’s also a good person. He’s a very good person,” Trump said of Musk.
As Musk continues to lead DOGE and streamline government processes, his involvement in Washington is likely to spark further debate. Is his role truly about efficiency, or does it represent an unprecedented level of corporate influence in politics?
