Black Waitress Is Fired For Helping Steph Curry

Sunny’s Diner wasn’t just a workplace for Amera Johnson—it was a sanctuary. She had started her job there three years ago, soon after moving to Berkeley. Raised by a single mother who juggled two jobs, Amera had always known the value of hard work. Her upbringing was marked by financial hardships but also by a deep family connection. Her mother, Vivien, was her biggest source of motivation. Alongside contributing to household expenses, Amera had a bigger dream: to study and become a social worker. She viewed life’s challenges as stepping stones to help others, especially young people like her younger brothers, Mik and Devon.

Working at Sunny’s allowed Amera to connect with people in a way she truly enjoyed. She remembered every customer’s quirks—Earl’s coffee needed just a hint of cream, Mrs. Henderson loved extra blueberries in her pancakes, and the couple at table three always shared a milkshake. That evening, however, was busier than usual. The hum of conversation filled the air, accompanied by the smell of freshly baked apple pie. Amera, darting between tables with her usual enthusiasm, sensed this night would be different.

When the door chime sounded, Amera glanced up—and froze. Standing under the flickering neon sign was Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors superstar. Clad in a gray hoodie and white sneakers, Steph tried to stay low-profile, yet his presence was undeniable.

Amera, standing at the counter, had to gather herself. It was surreal—Steph Curry in her diner. Reminding herself to stay professional, she approached his table, her notepad in hand.

“Good evening, welcome to Sunny’s. What can I get for you?” she asked with a steady smile. Steph’s warm demeanor immediately put her at ease. He ordered a black coffee and a slice of the diner’s signature pie.

As Amera brought his order, she felt the weight of every gaze in the diner. Whispers buzzed, and excitement filled the air. Meanwhile, Earl Thompson, a Kings fan with strong opinions, decided to confront Steph.

“What brings you here? Trying to boost your image?” Earl challenged. Before Steph could answer, Amera stepped in, defending the athlete’s contributions to the community. Her words silenced the diner but ruffled feathers with her boss.

Called into the kitchen, Amera faced Mr. Sullivan, who reluctantly let her go, fearing backlash from regular patrons.

The following morning, Steph Curry surprised her. Grateful for her courage, he offered Amera a role in his foundation, Eat. Learn. Play. The opportunity transformed her life, validating her belief in standing up for what’s right.
