The Kansas City Chiefs are facing concerns with their offensive lineup following Marquise Brown’s recent shoulder dislocation. Now, there’s a potential new worry – offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, who had to leave Wednesday’s practice early.
Taylor was seen being taken off in the front seat of a medical cart, and specifics about his condition were not disclosed, though he was notably absent from one-on-one drills prior to his departure. Taylor, who was a second-round selection for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019, is in his second season with Kansas City under a four-year, $80 million contract.
The 26-year-old had secured the starting role as right tackle, but following his departure from practice, Lucas Niang stepped in, according to ProFootballTalk. Jawaan Taylor’s injury could aggravate the Chiefs’ already challenging offseason which saw Brown sidelined due to an injury, with an expected recovery time of 4-6 weeks.
Compounding these issues are concerns about a potential suspension facing Rashee Rice, who is dealing with legal issues from his involvement in a street race that caused a significant traffic accident in Dallas earlier in the offseason. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, when questioned about the situation, stated, “I haven’t heard anything at this point.”
Rice is currently charged with eight counts related to a recent incident, and is also a suspect in a May assault case at a nightclub in Dallas. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler indicated that although Rice is likely to begin the season, his participation in upcoming games remains uncertain due to ongoing legal issues.
Fowler explained, “Given the lengthy nature of legal processes, he might actually play several games or even complete the season before the league decides on any suspension, as they typically assess the whole situation first.” This was similarly observed with Alvin Kamara, who despite facing battery charges, played throughout a season and faced suspension the following year.
The Kansas City Chiefs are preparing for various outcomes as the situation unfolds. Additionally, an update is expected soon regarding Jawaan Taylor’s health status.
Also, there was a notable report concerning a severe setback for a key player from the Chiefs.
