Zayn Malik honoured his former bandmate Liam Payne during a concert in the latter’s hometown which left fans feeling extremely emotional following his death
Zayn Malik issued an emotional tribute to Liam Payne in his hometown.
The singer who found fame as one fifth of the chart-mauling group One Direction in 2010 alongside Liam, Niall Horan, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson made the decision to quit in 2015. At the time, Malik, 31, spoke about his mental health and desires to live as normally as possible – despite his global fame.
But in recent weeks, he has been performing as a solo artist for the first time on his debut headline tour after being extremely open about the anxiety he faces while performing.
Zayn’s Stairway to the Sky Tour has seen him perform in cities such as London, Manchester, Leeds and Liam’s hometown of Wolverhampton.
Following Liam’s heartbreaking death last month, Zayn made the decision to postpone several dates of his tour.
The late 31-year tragically fell to his death from the balcony of his third floor hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16 The star died after suffering multiple traumas leading to an “internal and external haemorrhage”.
At the end of Zayn’s concerts, he shares a tribute to Liam during his 2024 track, Stardust. However, his sold-out concert in Liam’s hometown of Wolverhampton had much more emotion to it.

Speaking on stage at the University of Wolverhampton’s The Halls, Zayn said: “I’ve been doing something, at the end of the show, every night, and it’s been dedicated to my brother Liam Payne.
Rest in peace. I hope you’re seeing this, we’re in your hometown tonight, Wolverhampton, this is for you, Liam.”
Fans have since taken to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their comments, with many being left heartbroken once again.
One fan penned: “Stop I’m crying.” “It’s so weird hearing him say Liam Payne and Rest in Peace in the same sentence, I don’t think I’ll ever get over it,” said a second alongside a crying face emoji.
A third typed: “I cried as soon as he said it. So lovely to hear the devotion.” “The way he spoke… You know he is still talking out loud to him,” wrote another. Meanwhile a fifth commented: “Sounds like a touching tribute, gotta respect the brotherhood.”
Following Liam’s devastating death, Zayn shared a rare social media post admitting he “never got to thank” his “brother” for supporting him during difficult times.

He said that Liam would “always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile”. Zayn added: “I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly.
I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever. There is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are. Love you, bro.”Since the singer’s passing, three people have been charged. A toxicology report said Liam had anti-depressants and cocaine in his system at the time of his death – despite having been clean from drugs just days before.
It’s claimed that Class A drugs were smuggled to Liam’s hotel room, disguised in a Dove soap box. Hotel staff have since stated that only employees have access to the location where the soap supplies are held.
It’s since been alleged by witnesses and a since-filed police report that Liam was attempting to escape from his hotel room and threated to use the balcony as a means to flee. A bag was also found on his body in the hotel’s internal courtyard, indicating he may have been preparing to leave the room.
