My friend and I attended school together from first grade until we graduated from college. We were inseparable throughout the years, always there for each other, no matter what event or task arose. If I was there, she was there too, and vice versa. Even my husband would sometimes get jealous because of the attention I gave to my best friend. I married earlier than she did, so after getting married and moving out, she still visited my house regularly. My husband and I were so used to her presence in our family life.
I trusted my best friend absolutely and without a doubt, even though I occasionally noticed some excessive attention between my husband and her. The more trust you give, the more it can hurt when that trust is broken. One time, I returned home from a business trip earlier than expected, wanting to surprise my husband, so I didn’t let him know. But it was a real surprise when I walked in to find my best friend and my husband in an intimate situation right on our wedding bed. I was shocked, realizing the deceit that these two people, whom I held dear, had been hiding from me. I quietly wiped away my tears and stepped outside to call my husband to let me in, since I had left without my keys.
I tried to stay calm as I walked back into the house, facing the confusion on his face. My best friend came out of the kitchen, greeting me warmly and attempting to explain why she was there. Confronted with such blatant dishonesty, I didn’t cry out loud. I showed them the footage from the camera of their intimate moment. They both lowered their heads, apologizing and trying to explain their mistake. I couldn’t accept this betrayal, but the child I was carrying didn’t deserve any of this. It was unfair to the baby, who would be born lacking the love of either a father or a mother.
