Patrick Mahomes has praised Taylor Swift for throwing herself into the NFL as she supports her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback has revealed that Kelce’s pop star partner has had a major influence on the NFL and the Chiefs. Swift and Kelce’s relationship saw a boom in support for the Chiefs over the past year and her effect has even trickled into on-field matters.

Mahomes recently revealed that Swift has played her part in the Chiefs’ success as he said she “asks a lot of great questions” and her input could have altered the team’s play this season. “She’s really interested in football. [Swift] started drawing up plays. We might have to put one in,” Mahomes said.

“I think it’s been cool to see the girls and the women that have really embraced watching football,” he added. “I know — being a girl dad — how cool it is for me to see these little girls, these daughters and how much they’re loving to spend time with their dad, watching football.

“And then meeting Taylor, realizing how genuine and cool she is. I think that’s been special to me because she’s like you said, the most famous person in the world, she could not be [genuine].”

Mahomes has previously lauded Swift for her humility in an interview with Time. The quarterback clearly approves of Kelce’s partner as he explained he has “met a lot of famous people” but said Swift is “probably the most down-to-earth” he’s come across.

“She’s never not working,” he said. “Even when she’s taking her downtime, she’s working on something. Shooting a music video or singing a song or writing a song. You can see it by how she talks.”

Mahomes also touched on the passion and enthusiasm the pop star has for all her endeavors, and appears to have taken to NFL seamlessly supporting her beau. “Even when she’s talking about football, when she’s learning it,” Mahomes said. “You can see her business mind putting it together. It’s almost like she’s trying to become a coach. ‘Why can’t you try this, this, and this?’ She’s asking the right questions.”

The three-time Super Bowl champion acknowledged the impact that Swift has had on the team, helping the Chiefs transform from a “nationwide team that was kind of global to a full global, worldwide team,” Mahomes added. “That came from Taylor’s fanbase.”

Despite the added eyes on the team, Mahomes said the players weren’t distracted but instead were able to use it as extra motivation. “We just embraced it,” he said. “We like having that visibility. At the end of the day, football has always been this bruising sport. We want to make it fun, where kids grow up and play football and show their personality and be who they are. This year really magnified that.”

Mahomes and Kelce begin the new NFL season against the Baltimore Ravens on Friday. The Chiefs are looking to win their third consecutive Super Bowl come the end of the season but will be hoping their preseason form isn’t anything to go by, having lost their last three matches in the build-up.
