The Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals didn’t come without heartbreak, as running back Isiah Pacheco is likely heading to injured reserve with a fractured fibula.

Despite getting hurt Pacheco was in good spirits after the game, recording a video shouting out to Chiefs fans, which the team posted to their official X account:

“Chiefs Kingdom we here again baby!” Pacheco said. “2-0, let’s go!”

Being all smiles and jogging off the field just after suffering a significant injury shows the toughness and positive attitude that Pacheco possesses. We’ve seen him display that numerous times throughout his career, including his habit of quickly popping up off of the ground after a big hit and running full speed back to the huddle.

There’s no doubt that Pacheco will keep his mind right and work hard to come back strong from his injury. He had a very solid game against the Bengals, averaging 4.7 yards per carry and racking up 101 total yards on 24 touches. Expectations have been high for the third-year RB as he entered the season healthy and with improved receiving skills.

While there’s no specific timetable for his return, the Chiefs will have to make plans to be without him for a significant amount of time. Replacing him won’t be easy. Backups Carson Steele and Samaje Perine are the next guys up, but both have big question marks as Steele is a rookie and Perine is a career backup who has only been in K.C. for less than a month.

It’s possible that the Chiefs look for outside help, however free agent options are bare and trades don’t usually occur this early in the season. The good news is that Pacheco will return at some point and be ready to go during the most important time of the season.
