Two women who spent time with One Direction star Liam Payne in the hours before his death, have been identified.

Argentinian women Aldana Serrano, 31 and Lucila Goitea, 27, both from neighbourhoods in downtown Buenos Aires, were invited to Payne’s hotel on Wednesday.

They arrived at his luxury suite on the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in the Argentinian capital about 11.30am before leaving about 4pm.

About an hour later, Payne fell to his death from his suite’s balcony sparking an outpouring of grief from family, friends and fans across the globe, as well as a police investigation into how the incident occurred.

Both women were questioned by police as “co-operative witnesses”, with their stories reported to have matched up.

A source said Ms Serrano and Ms Goitea were left “devastated” by the news of Payne’s death.

“They have been cooperative from the moment they found out Liam died. They have told police they did nothing wrong and left well before he fell,” the source told The Sunday Mirror.

“The two girls have vowed to continue help investigators and have said they will speak to police at any time.”

A staff member at the hotel made an urgent 911 call before the singer’s death, indicating he was worried about a man’s safety as he appeared to be “intoxicated by drugs and alcohol” and was “breaking the whole room”.

Local media published pictures that allegedly depicted the inside of Payne’s hotel room, with what appears to be drug paraphernalia scattered across a table, including white powder and burnt aluminium foil on top of a table.

One of the images, taken inside the Deluxe Suite of the hotel, showed burnt aluminium foil, white powder, a burnt aluminium can top, a Dove soap box, and an empty wine glass.

Another image showed a smashed hotel TV and a half-full champagne glass, while a third captured a sink with a piece of burnt and crumpled aluminium foil and candle remains.

Prosecutors have suggested Payne could have been “going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse” prior to his death.

Investigations remain ongoing as police analyse whether Payne was supplied drugs by an employee at the hotel.

Just four days after his death, the 31-year-old was honoured during the in memoriam segment at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.

An image of Payne in his One Direction days was shown on the screen, receiving cheers from the audience at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
