Johnny Depp Plans Hollywood Return With 2 Upcoming Movies

If you missed watching Johnny Depp create his iconic magic on the big screen then buckle up because the actor is finally returning to Hollywood with not just one but two films up his sleeve, marking the first time he would return in a big role since 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald.

Depp will be seen in Day Drinker , a thriller film written by Marc Webb, and co-starring Penelope Cruz. Produced by Lionsgate, the film will revolve around a bartender on a cruise ship who meets a mysterious day drinker and soon finds themselves in the midst of a criminal scene.

Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson teased the film and said,

“‘Day Drinker’ combines a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns all set in an incredible world, and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penélope to bring that world to life.”

The second film Depp will do is Carnival at the End of Days , where the actor will be playing the role of Satan. The film is directed by Terry Gilliam, who has talked about wanting to cast Depp as Satan in the film ever since he was working on it. Talking about the film, he said,

“This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for fucking up his beautiful garden Earth. There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”

Fans are excited to see Johnny Depp back to work and knowing Depp, he will bring his thrilling magic back on screens, hoping he still has it in him after the long break.

As one of the biggest actors of this generation, Johnny Depp’s hiatus, even though it wasn’t voluntary, was a huge loss for Hollywood. Fans were highly anticipated to watch him in the Fantastic Beasts films where he portrayed Gellert Grindelwald. However, after his defamation case with ex-wife Amber Heard the actor was dropped out of the series by Warner Bros. This resulted in a long hiatus the actor took, returning in 2023 for his film Jeanne du Barry

Talking about the hiatus at a press conference, Depp said,

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? You’d have to not have a pulse to feel like, ‘No. None of this is happening. It’s a weird joke.’When you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a function of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yes, you feel boycotted.”
