Women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark is joining an ownership group that is aiming to get a National Women’s Soccer League expansion team to Cincinnati.

FC Cincinnati confirmed that the WNBA star Clark has joined the Cincinnati bid team in a statement to WLWT on Thursday.

“The NWSL Cincinnati bid team is thrilled that Caitlin Clark has joined our ownership group in pursuit of bringing a women’s professional soccer team to our city. Her passion for the sport, commitment to elevating women’s sports in and around the Greater Cincinnati region, and influence as an athlete and role model for women and girls around the world, make her a vital part of our compelling bid to become the 16th team in the NWSL,” a statement from FC Cincinnati said.

According to a report from ESPN, Cincinnati is among the favorites to land a NWSL team. Cleveland, Denver, Philadelphia and Nashville are also reportedly in consideration.

The NWSL was founded in 2012 with eight teams and has continued to grow since. The league now has 14 teams, with Boston on board as an expansion team beginning in 2026.

Clark immediately brings a star presence to Cincinnati’s ownership group, fresh off being the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever and the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year.
