Rebecca Lobo Has Strong Caitlin Clark Opinion After ESPN Announcement
Caitlin Clark saw her rookie season come to an end after the Connecticut Sun defeated the Indiana Fever 87-81 in Game 2 of the WNBA playoffs first round on Wednesday.
The game was broadcast on ESPN, and less than 24 hours later, the popular sports network made a big announcement about the game.
According to ESPN PR on X, Game 2 between the Fever and Sun was cable’s most-viewed WNBA game of all time. The contest averaged 2.5 million viewers throughout the game and peaked at 3.4 million.
The news sparked ESPN analyst Rebecca Lobo to drop her opinion of Clark’s impact on the league.
“Just like in college, Caitlin Clark remains a singular force when it comes to driving ratings and ticket sales,” Lobo wrote on X. “The WNBA is finally shining in front of millions. Thrilled for these women.”
This new record comes just days after Fever vs. Sun Game 1 became ESPN’s most-watched WNBA postseason game ever. Breaking this kind of record is certainly nothing new for Clark and the Fever. Since her arrival in the league this season, viewership and attendance records have been shattered across the board.
Clark even broke many different records on the court, including the most assists in a season, the most points by a rookie, and the most assists in a single game. Not to mention, she became the only rookie in league history to record a triple-double, doing so twice.
After four years of college ball with the UConn Huskies, Lobo joined the WNBA in its inaugural season in 1997. She played for seven years in the league, mostly with the New York Liberty, where she was named an All-Star and a second-team All-WNBA member. Lobo was named to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017
