Caitlin Clark will not be joining Angel Reese in the all-new Unrivalled League

Angel Reese has confessed to ‘living beyond her means’ with her WNBA salary not enough to pay her rent and monthly bills. Salaries were the subject of much scrutiny when it was revealed how much Caitlin Clark would make as the top WNBA draft pick.

Clark earned just £58,000 during her rookie season but is raking in much more through endorsements and sponsorship deals. She is already partnered with the likes of Gatorade, State Farm and Nike with her star power helping to top up her annual salary.

Reese, meanwhile, earned just over £56,000 last season and has brand deals with the likes of Reebok and Beats. Like many of her WNBA rivals, she is taking part in the Unrivalled League during the off-season where players will earn a minimum salary of almost £77,000.

Angel Reese has revealed that her WNBA salary does not cover her rent and bills

On Wednesday, Reese took to Instagram to reveal that her WNBA salary does not cover her rent of around £6,148 per month. She added that she wants her ‘haters’ to keep on ‘hating’ because that is what pays her bills.

“I’m living beyond my means,” said Reese. “Hating pays them bills, baby. I just hope you know the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all. I don’t even think it pays one of my bills, literally.

“I’m trying to figure out my rent for where I stay at. I’m going to do the math. I’m living beyond my means! Babe, if y’all thought… That WNBA check don’t pay a thing.

“Did that even pay my car note? I wouldn’t even be able to eat a sandwich with that. I wouldn’t even be able to eat. I wouldn’t be able to live.”

Clark, meanwhile, can afford to take a break during the off-season having decided not to sign up to the Unrivalled League. Reese is the biggest name on the entry list with Breanna Stewart and Brittney Griner among the other stars involved.

ESPN commentator Ryan Ruocco said he spoke to Clark before the Indiana Fever were eliminated from the WNBA play-offs and confirmed that she had no intention of playing in the league.

“We talked to Caitlin Clark earlier today,” he said. “She said she almost definitely will not play basketball this off-season, so it is likely we will not see her play again until April.”

The new WNBA season is expected to get underway in May, meaning Clark will be due to return to training with the Fever in April.
