BREAKING: Pistons trade for veteran guard Dennis Schröder

Detroit reportedly adds Dennis Schröder in trade with Jazz that sends 2 players and a Draft pick to Utah.

A day after being included in the Jimmy Butler blockbuster trade, Dennis Schröder will be on the move again. Per multiple reports, Schröder will move on from the Utah Jazz — who got him in the reported trade Wednesday night — to the Detroit Pistons.

The Sixers announced they are trading KJ Martin and two future second-round picks to the Pistons for cash considerations. Per Jake Fischer, the Pistons will then deal Martin, Josh Richardson (who was also included in the Butler trade) and a 2028 second-round pick to the Jazz. Richardson will reportedly be waived.

The Pistons will mark the ninth NBA team in Schröder’s career and the fourth team he was a part of this season. Schröder began 2024-25 with the Brooklyn Nets, then was traded to the Golden State Warriors on Dec. 15 and was dealt to the Jazz in the Butler trade on Wednesday.

He is averaging 14.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season and will serve as the backup to All-Star guard Cade Cunningham in Detroit after having a similar role in Golden State behind All-Star Stephen Curry. The Pistons (25-26) are in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff chase and are one game behind the Miami Heat for the No. 6 seed.

Martin is a regular player in the 76ers’ rotation, averaging 6.4 ppg and 3 rpg while shooting 61.6% overall and 38.1% on 3-pointers. In Utah, he will join a frontcourt that includes former All-Star Lauri Markkanen, John Collins, Svi Mykhailiuk and Brice Sensabaugh.

Richardson has seen his stats plummet in 2024-25 to 4 ppg, 1.5 rpg ane 1.5 apg after posting 9.9 ppg, 2.8 rpg and 2.4 apg as a solid rotation player for the Heat.
