Caitlin Clark blames her boyfriend for this new obsession that might cost her games – Can she work it out?

Caitlin Clark has stolen the spotlight for her playful commentary during a Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers MLB game. During a media session after practice on Saturday, the WNBA star explained her Phillies fandom and quickly dispelled any accusations of being a bandwagon supporter.

Clark clarified that while she isn’t a die-hard baseball fan, her connection to the Phillies comes from her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, who is a huge supporter of the team.

She laughed off the idea of being a bandwagon fan, explaining that her baseball loyalty stems from her relationship with McCaffery, not from jumping on the team’s success.

Clark explains which teams she has supported

Growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, she pointed out that Kansas City teams were the closest professional options, making them a natural fit to follow. She also mentioned that she was a Kansas City Chiefs fan long before their recent rise to NFL prominence.

“My boyfriend grew up a really big Phillies fan, so I kinda had to like the Phillies,” Clark said.

“I do like them, I love Bryce Harper. I still like the Cubs, I like the Yankees. I’m not like a diehard any baseball team. My dad was a big Royals fan.

“Kansas City was like a professional sports team to us. I liked the Chiefs before the Chiefs were really good too, so I’m not a bandwagoner either. I like the Phillies, so I’ll cheer for them this postseason.”

With no major sports teams in Iowa, Clark had to look elsewhere for her fandom. Besides the proximity to Kansas City, she supported the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA, which was the closest team to her hometown.

Meanwhile, after a stint with the Indiana Pacers as a team assistant, McCaffery recently took a coaching position at Butler University. Although new to coaching, his background as a former University of Iowa player and son of long-time Iowa coach Fran McCaffery gives him a strong foundation.
