Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, discusses her daughter’s suicidal thoughts in a new interview. Ragland says that she was “heartbroken” to learn of her daughter’s struggles and that she and Prince Harry were unable to protect her from the media scrutiny she received.
Ragland’s comments come in a new episode of the Netflix docuseries “Harry & Meghan.” In the episode, Ragland says that she learned of her daughter’s suicidal thoughts after Markle told her husband, Prince Harry. Ragland says that she was “shocked” and “heartbroken” to hear the news.
“That really broke my heart because I knew that it was bad,” Ragland says in the interview. “That’s not an easy one for a mom to hear.”
Ragland also says that she and Harry were unable to protect Markle from the media scrutiny she received after her relationship with the royal family became public.
“She was just constantly be picked at by these vultures just picking away at her spirit,” Ragland says of Markle.
Ragland’s interview is one of many emotional moments in the new season of “Harry & Meghan.” The docuseries also explores the couple’s decision to step back from their royal duties and move to California.
