Jelly Roll Shockingly Joins American Idol as ‘Artist in Residence’—Fans Can’t Get Enough of His Heartwarming Personality and Helicopter Rides with Ryan Seacrest!

Jelly Roll Joins American Idol in a Historic New Role

Jelly Roll is stepping onto the American Idol stage once again—but this time, it’s not as a contestant or a guest mentor. In a surprising and groundbreaking move, the country-rap star is making history as the show’s first-ever Artist in Residence.

Already a dominant force in country music, Jelly Roll continues to rise across the industry. Known for hits like “I Need a Favor” and his candid, heartfelt connection with fans, he’s built a reputation as one of the most genuine and generous figures in music. With his larger-than-life presence and warm personality, it’s no wonder that artists and contestants alike are eager to be around him. Now, American Idol is giving him a permanent place in the competition—one that goes beyond mentoring.

The exciting announcement came in a promo video for the upcoming season, where Jelly Roll reunited with longtime host Ryan Seacrest in the most memorable way—by literally lifting him off the ground in a hug. Laughing, he shared the big news: “I’m American Idol’s Artist in Residence!” He added, “I feel like I’m giving them the energy they need. I’m uplifting and trying to get ’em going.”

Seacrest, clearly enjoying the moment, jokingly responded, “I like it. It feels good when you helicopter me. I need you every day.”

New Faces on the American Idol Panel

Jelly Roll isn’t the only fresh addition to American Idol this season. With Katy Perry stepping away to focus on her music career, the show wasted no time finding a replacement. After much speculation, the producers officially announced country superstar Carrie Underwood as the newest judge, joining Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Fans have welcomed both changes with open arms. One commenter expressed their excitement, writing, “He just seems like a really good down-to-earth guy with a heart of gold. We all need someone like Jelly Roll in our lives.” Another added, “Smart move by American Idol! I wasn’t planning on watching this season, but now I can’t miss it. Love Jelly Roll!”

Don’t miss the new season of American Idol, premiering Sunday, March 9th, on ABC!
