Sean Duffy tells Hillary Clinton to ‘sit this one out’ after she chimes in on his DOGE announcement
Elon Musk said DOGE will seek to ‘to make rapid safety upgrades to the air traffic control system
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will work on upgrading the aviation system, and then fired back at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton after she weighed in.
Clinton chimed in, tweeting, “They have no relevant experience. Most of them aren’t old enough to rent a car. And you’re going to let them mess with airline safety that’s already deteriorated on your watch?”
Duffy fired back at Clinton, the Democrat who lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump.
“Madam Secretary, with all due respect, ‘experienced’ Washington bureaucrats are the reason our nation’s infrastructure is crumbling. You need to sit this one out,” Duffy declared.
The back and forth continued, with Clinton against taking issue with Duffy’s plans.
“US airlines had gone 16 years without fatal crashes,” she wrote. “Then MAGA fired the FAA chief, gutted the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, and threatened air traffic controllers with layoffs. Now there have been two fatal crashes. Hope your unvetted 22-year-olds fix things fast.”
But Duffy responded again with a lengthier post.
“I know you’re lashing out because DOGE is uncovering your family’s obscene grifting via USAID, but I won’t let you lie and distort facts,” Duffy wrote.
“The FAA administrator announced he resigned over a month before Trump took office, and the air traffic controllers were always exempt from Trump’s civil service buyouts.”
Duffy said that the Biden administration “shamelessly used USDOT as a slush fund for the Green New Scam,” throwing away money rather than updating the nation’s antiquated air traffic control systems and other critical infrastructure.
“I’m returning this department to its mission of safety by using innovative technology in transportation and infrastructure,” Duffy wrote. “Your team had its chance and failed. We’re moving on without you because the American people want us to make America’s transportation system great again. And yes, we’re bringing the 22-year-olds with us.”
Business tycoon Elon Musk — who is spearheading the DOGE effort to uncover government waste, fraud and abuse — indicated that the team will seek to swiftly implement “safety upgrades to the air traffic control system.”
“With the support of President @realDonaldTrump, the @DOGE team will aim to make rapid safety upgrades to the air traffic control system. Just a few days ago, the FAA’s primary aircraft safety notification system failed for several hours!” he noted in a post when responding to Duffy’s announcement.
