After the American Idol winner opened the September 27th episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show with a cover of Céline’s iconic song, “My Heart Will Go On,” the Canadian singer praised the talk show host for her performance of the Oscar-winning Titanic theme song.
“You are really amazing,” Céline praised in a video shared on Instagram on October 8th. “Amazing. I loved that.”
Following her performance, Kelly, 42, admitted that she only attempted the powerful ballad because Titanic star Kate Winslet was the guest on that day’s show. “Normally, I would never cover that song,” she told her audience, “because there are certain songs you don’t want to sing as a singer.”
In her social media post, the singer of “Because You Loved Me,” who made her return to the stage at the 2024 Olympic Games while battling Stiff-Person Syndrome, also expressed how moved she was by Kelly’s emotional response to her performance of Édith Piaf’s “Hymne À L’Amour.”
“When I returned from the Olympics, I got to watch and listen to your reaction to my performance on the Eiffel Tower,” the 56-year-old shared. “It was so sweet to hear your voice—your voice breaking—and it really touched me. You cried, and then you made me cry! What the heck is going on?”
While co-hosting NBC’s Opening Ceremony coverage in July, Kelly fought back tears as she praised Céline’s powerful performance, her first after more than four years.
“I wasn’t ready for that,” Kelly said at the time. “If you know anything about Céline right now, she feels like this is her purpose.”
“I’m sorry, I’m trying to hold it together,” she continued. “But she made it through, and that’s incredible. And in my field, she’s the gold medalist for vocal athletes.”
