Christie Sides facing criticism after four straight losses: You coach Indiana Fever, you haven’t won a game…she’s got to go

Indiana Fever fans know who to blame after four straight defeats

Sides

Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides is facing pressure from fans to step down from her role after failing to prevent a fourth straight defeat in the WNBA 2024 season.

Despite Caitlin Clark‘s best efforts, the Fever fell to an 88-84 loss at the hands of the Connecticut Sun and are yet to taste victory in the league this year.

This was the closest the Fever have come to ending their winless run after heavy defeats at the hands of the New York Liberty at the weekend. Even in their opener against the Sun, they lost 92-71.

But in this particular game, the fine margins are where the Fever came unstuck. It has been suggested they could have forced overtime had Aliyah Boston not squandered her lay-up in crunch time to tie the game.

While many have blamed Boston and Clark for struggling to meet their usual standards in the game, some have aimed their ire at coach Sides for a critical tactical error.

Several fans took to social media to point out that Boston – and not their star player Clark – was given the last shot. Given how the rookie was shooting at the point in the game, finishing with a team-high 17 points, that looked to be an error in judgement.

Christie Sides under pressure from fans

One fan even called on Sides to resign from her position after the game for botching the call and ignoring Clark.

“You coach the Indiana Fever, you haven’t won a WNBA game, you’re 2 down, you have the last shot, you have Caitlin Clark, and you call a play for Aliyah Boston? Coach gotta go,” a frustrated fan said.

Another commenter said, “You gotta give Caitlin Clark the ball in crunch time.”

Aaliyah Boston just looked off Caitlin Clark to smoke a wide open lay up to tie the game ……”, another added.

While firing Sides, 47, at this point may be the easy option, there has been some progress made since the first game. But another defeat against the Seattle Storm on May 23 could crank up the heat.
