Gabby Thomas has quickly become a sensation after winning Olympic gold in France on Tuesday.
The American sprinter put on a dominant performance in the 200m women’s final, finishing with a time of 21.83 seconds. This was more than enough to see her beat St. Lucian star Julien Alfred, who won the 100m final to hand the Caribbean island its first-ever Olympic medal last week.
Alfred’s time of 22.08 gave the country another medal just a few days later, as she finished in second place to claim silver.
Folks wasted no time taking to social media, X/Twitter, in particular, to rave about Thomas’ performance after she became the first American to win the women’s 200m in 12 years.
“Imagine graduating from Harvard at 22 and winning an Olympic gold medal at 27,” FOX’s Emmanuel Acho wrote. “Gabby Thomas, you are legendary my friend. Legendary.”
“Gabby Thomas absolutely crushed that,” someone else tweeted. “Not me tearing up when they showed her mom in the crowd.”
“Aside from natural beauty, a Harvard education, world-class speed and an Olympic gold medal, what’s Gabby Thomas got that I don’t got?” another user asked.
“Gabby Thomas winning the women’s 200m Olympic title is a fantastic achievement. She has been a rising star in track and field, and this victory cements her status as one of the top sprinters in the world,” a fan declared. “Her journey, marked by perseverance and dedication, is truly inspiring. It’s also a significant moment for American athletics, continuing the legacy of excellence in sprinting events.”
Thomas won bronze at the last Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and showed considerable improvement to finish in first place this time around.
She’s quickly become a fan favorite with her first-ever gold medal win, and social media is waxing lyrical over her commanding victory.
