Fox News Host Hits Back at ‘Nasty Insults’ From ‘Trolls’ After Tough Interview of Trump Adviser

In Contentious Fox News Interview, Harris Spars With Anchor: Oct. 16 Campaign News - The New York Times

Fox News host Howie Kurtz hit back at “nasty insults” from pro-Trump “trolls” after his grilling of Trump senior adviser Jason Miller proved too tough for their liking.

On this week’s edition of Fox News Channel’s MediaBuzz , Kurtz challenged Miller repeatedly on a number of issues in an interview that spanned two segments.

Kurtz’s performance didn’t go down well with Trump supporters on social media, whom Kurtz said inundated him with “nasty insults” on social media — which Kurtz hit back at on X.

Replies to Kurtz about the interview included accusations of “bias” and suggestions he would be more at home on MSNBC — as well as even less kind remarks.

How Greg Gutfeld on 'Fox News' Is Beating 'The Tonight Show' - The New York Times

“The trolls are really out today with nasty insults. Jason Miller was fine with our interview. Trump is under fierce media criticism on a dozen fronts and that’s what we explored with a conservative and liberal panel,” Kurtz wrote.

Kurtz spent a good four minutes grilling Miller over President Donald Trump’s shocking statements about the war in Ukraine referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “a dictator” and accusing Zelensky of starting the war. When Miller repeatedly sidestepped, Kurtz kept at him.

In another exchange, Kurtz challenged Miller over cuts to Medicaid and an annexation of Canada that’s “never going to happen”:

HOWIE KURTZ: The president says he will protect Medicaid, the federal state program for the poor, as well as Medicare and Social Security. But he supports the House budget, which would slash Medicaid in part to pay for the tax cuts. So which is it?

JASON MILLER: Well, I think people are getting a couple things conflated here. You can definitely go remove the waste, fraud and abuse. You can also talk about how you’re going to deliver services more effectively without going to necessarily reducing benefits to people.

So what the president has made clear is that we have to go and re-up his tax cuts. When you get no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime, reduce the corporate rate down to 15% if you’re making your product here in America.

But we have to streamline and make more efficient the federal government. This is really the theme, Howie. For years, people have been ticked off that leaders have not done anything about it. He’s going to get it right.

HOWIE KURTZ: Well, the House budgets could cut as much as $880 billion for Medicare. We’ll see how it plays out.

Why does the president keep talking about Canada as the 51st state. It’s a huge story there. It sparked a wave of patriotism and anger at America, and in reality is never going to happen?

JASON MILLER: Well, Howie, first of all, the president’s having a little bit of fun with it, but also he has but he’s also making some very serious points. I mean, the US does subsidize Canada effectively running about a $63 billion trade deficit. I think it was 64 billion the year before. That’s just a fact of life. But but hold on. But also when you look at why is Canada so safe, it’s because of the United States, because of the US protection. Remember the Monroe Doctrine, or is the New York Post now calls it the Monroe Doctrine? The reason why Canada is safe is because the United States and there are a lot of aspects of the Usmca, while much improved over NAFTA, still need to be fixed. We definitely need more cooperation from the Canadians when it comes to keep talking to me.

HOWIE KURTZ: The country is not getting cooperation.

JASON MILLER: Justin Trudeau still in charge for now. For now. For now. Right. And I think he’s on his way out there. But but no, but President Trump is going to use political pressure and media pressure only the way that he knows how, but I think it’s having a little bit of fun.

He also called Miller out for refusing to say Trump will “abide by the Constitution” and not seek a third term.
