Fox News’ Kat Timpf gives health update after shock cancer diagnosis

In an unexpected Instagram post shared on Tuesday, the 36-year-old host announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer just hours before giving birth to her first child.

‘Last week, I welcomed my first child into the world. About fifteen hours before I went into labor, I was diagnosed with breast cancer,’ the post read.

‘My doctors say it’s stage zero and is confident that it almost certainly hasn’t spread.’

The startling news was followed by an outpouring of concerned comments, many of which included unsolicited medical advice.

On Friday, Timpf took to X to express her gratitude for the internet’s support but admitted that the sheer volume of well-meaning advice had left her feeling ‘overwhelmed.’

‘First of all, thank you so much for all the support, it’s meant so much to me. This is obviously a really crazy, difficult, unexpected time and I really do appreciate it,’ the mother-of-one said in the video.

‘But I wanted to address a few things because I’ve also been overwhelmed with, I guess you could say, medical advice?’

Timpf went on to describe the comments, which included some criticism over her doctor’s advice that undergoing a double mastectomy as soon as possible would be the best course of action.

Though not ill-intended, some users went on to describe their own loved ones stage-zero diagnosis.

Some, Timpf said, had recommended that a double mastectomy wasn’t the best course of action as some of their family members only needed a lumpectomy to treat the cancer.

Others, she explained, had claimed themselves to be a nurse before declaring that a double mastectomy for stage-zero cancer sounds ‘extreme.’

‘I just want to say, trust me, there’s no one for whom that seems more extreme than me,’ Timpf said.

‘I don’t take cutting my t*** off lightly,’ she continued. ‘As a general rule, I don’t think any woman does. I find it devastating. But I am very grateful to have access to the opinions of many brilliant minds when it comes to breast cancer.’

Despite referring to the extensive procedure as ‘devastating,’ Timpf emphasized the expertise of the team of health experts guiding her through the process, confidently asserting that they know what is best for her own body.

‘I have been very lucky to have a team that is very knowledgeable on this, I’ve talked to a lot of different people and the focus of all of these conversations is what’s the best thing to do to keep my alive so I’m around for my son for a long time,’ she added.

‘And every case of breast cancer is very different,’ Timpf continued.

‘There are a lot of details of mine that I haven’t shared, but I just want to say, you know, trust that I’m making the best decision for me and my family, and I’m getting the best medical advice that I could possibly be getting.’

Tuesday’s Instagram announcement garnered widespread attention, as the three-slide post titled ‘An Unconventional Birth Announcement’ accumulated more than 100,000 likes and comments.

In the post, Timpf recounted the hectic day that led up to her diagnosis and how she used humor to cope with the news.

‘I woke up more-than-a-week-past-due pregnant, completely consumed by doing everything I could to get the baby out,’ she said.

‘By the afternoon, I was waddling around from appointment to appointment, talking about how to get my cancer out.

‘I asked all the questions I could, including if I could get a copy of my tumor ultrasound to put on the fridge next to the ultrasound of my baby.’

Timpf, who married 38-year-old Army vet Cameron Friscia in 2021, also revealed the gender of her child.

‘Finally, by the middle of the night, I was crawling around the floor of my apartment in spontaneous labor, before heading to the hospital to meet my baby, whom I’d learn at the time of birth was a son.’

The 36-year-old mother remained on the air well into her third trimester, but confirmed that she’s officially on maternity leave after enduring months of sickening comments and criticism for working as long as she did.

‘These next three months of maternity leave are going to look a lot different than I’d anticipated, and I’m still getting used to my new reality,’ she said.

‘Still, as I navigate new motherhood (and new cancer) I’m learning to celebrate everything I can.

‘I’m lucky that we found the cancer so early; I’m lucky to be my son’s mom. I mean, I know I’m biased, but the little dude absolutely rules – and not just because he might have saved my life.’

Just last month, the longtime Fox talent addressed the haters who slammed her for working with a visible baby bump.

‘I am under the close care of a doctor, and I promise that both of us know and care far more about my health and the health of my own baby than any random online stranger does from just seeing me on TV,’ she said.

‘Although I’m sure much of it is well-intentioned, I don’t need to be bombarded with comments about how my belly looking this way or that way clearly means I will be needing this or that.

‘Or how I shouldn’t be at work, or concerns about my “amniotic fluid” or any other wildly personal medical thing.’
