Hoda Kotb got teary-eyed as she thanked NBC executives for offering her a more fair contract instead of the harmful one they initially proposed.

For nearly two decades, Hoda Kotb was a beloved fixture on Today, bringing warmth, authenticity, and an undeniable connection with viewers.

However, in January 2025, Kotb made the life-changing decision to step away from the show, leaving behind a 17-year legacy.

While many were surprised by her departure, Kotb has since opened up about how she knew it was the right choice—and why she has no regrets.

A Career Defined by Connection

Hoda Kotb first joined Today in 2007 as the co-host of the fourth hour alongside Kathie Lee Gifford.

Over the years, she became one of the most recognizable faces in morning television,

eventually stepping into the role of co-anchor for the main Today show in 2018 alongside Savannah Guthrie. Her chemistry with colleagues, her ability to connect with audiences, and her infectious laughter made her a fan favorite.

Despite her love for the job, Kotb had been reflecting on her future for some time. With a busy schedule, early morning wake-up calls, and the constant demands of live television, she realized she was ready for a new chapter—one that would allow her to focus on personal and professional endeavors outside of morning news.

The Moment of Clarity

While Kotb has spoken fondly of her years at Today, she has also shared that there was a definitive moment when she knew stepping away was the right decision. In a candid conversation following her departure, she revealed that she had been searching for balance and fulfillment in a new way.

“There was a moment where I just knew,” Kotb shared. “I had been thinking about what really brings me joy, what excites me, and where I want to put my energy next. When I realized that I was more excited about what was ahead than what I was leaving behind, I knew it was time.”

That sense of clarity helped her move forward without hesitation. While saying goodbye was emotional, Kotb felt an overwhelming sense of peace about her choice.

A New Chapter in Wellness and Inspiration

One of the biggest motivators behind Kotb’s decision was her desire to explore new opportunities in the wellness space. In the months leading up to her departure, she hinted at an upcoming collaboration with former Fixer Upper star Joanna Gaines, describing their project as an exciting adventure focused on personal growth, mindfulness, and storytelling.

Kotb has long been passionate about self-care, mental health, and empowering others, so the shift into this new space felt natural. She has also expressed an interest in writing more books, expanding on the success of her previous inspirational works, and spending more quality time with her two daughters, Haley and Hope.

Gratitude for the Journey

While Kotb is looking ahead, she remains deeply grateful for her time at Today. On her final episode, she shared an emotional farewell, thanking her colleagues, viewers, and the network for the memories and opportunities she had been given.

“I’ve been so lucky to wake up every morning and do what I love,” she said. “But sometimes, you have to listen to that little voice inside you telling you it’s time for something new. And when you listen, you realize that change isn’t scary—it’s beautiful.”

Her departure was met with an outpouring of love and support, with co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and others celebrating her contributions and wishing her well.

No Regrets—Just Excitement for the Future

Since leaving Today, Kotb has embraced the freedom that comes with stepping away from a high-profile television role. She has been spending more time with family, traveling, and preparing for her next big venture. And while some wondered if she would miss the fast-paced world of morning news, Kotb insists she has no regrets.

“When I wake up now, I feel excited about the day in a different way,” she said. “I loved my time at Today, and I will always cherish it. But I also know that I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”

As she embarks on this new journey, fans will undoubtedly continue to follow Kotb’s next steps with admiration and excitement. Whether through her upcoming wellness venture, her writing, or future projects, one thing is certain—Hoda Kotb is just getting started.
