We’ve all heard Miley Cyrus’s hits, but did you know she’s one heck of a comedian as well? The Tennessee hitmaker showed off her comedy chops when she dropped in on The Tonight Show to take on Cardi B’s breakout hit “Bodak Yellow” for the Musical Genre Challenge. Jimmy Fallon put her up to singing the hip-hop track in a pop style, and unsurprisingly for a girl who grew up on a farm, she gave it a bit of country pop twang.
Something about the weird combination of the repetitive lyrics being sung like Dolly Parton and Cyrus hamming up the performance is sure to get you giggling. Fallon then tried to elbow in on the act by singing out of key, but Cyrus put him in his place and regained the spotlight, making for a chaotic end to the segment. We always have plenty of time for Miley Cyrus here, and she sure didn’t disappoint in her Fallon appearance.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon uploaded the “Bodak Yellow” bit on May 27, 2024, although Cyrus’s appearance on the show actually dates back to October 3, 2017. Fans really enjoyed seeing Cyrus flex her rap and comedy chops, and added comments such as “That’s the best version of ‘Bodak Yellow.’ Period” and “Miley has the type of voice that just shines through anything, emotionally. That’s a gift, anointed.”
Cyrus always shines when she teams up with comedians. Another epic comedy collab came when Cyrus appeared on Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The dynamic duo sang her hits “We Can’t Stop,” “The Climb,” and of course, “Party in the U.S.A.” Cyrus also found time for a quirky story or two, and she and Corden really hammed it up during the performances, making for a 38 million view video.
“Bodak Yellow” is Cardi B’s debut single, and the New York City rapper co-wrote it with a team of five other writers. Cardi B released it on June 16, 2017, as the lead single from her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy. Readers may recall that “Bodak Yellow” instantly made Cardi B a star, and the single went 11 times Platinum in the US, as well as 8 times Platinum in Canada. This made the trap tune just about the hottest thing going when Cyrus made her appearance on Fallon just a few months after the track dropped.
