My wife was wrongly accused of stealing, but the truth came out thanks to the security camera

Two weeks ago, my mother-in-law came to town for medical treatment. My mother, being very kind, decided to call her to stay at our house so she wouldn’t have to rent a hotel room. At first, my mother-in-law refused, but after a while she agreed and brought her things to stay with us for a few days.

For the first few days, my mother took care of her very lovingly, without any complaints. After five days, my mother-in-law finished her treatment and returned to her home in the countryside. What we couldn’t imagine was that the next day, my mother would discover that she had lost 5 gold bars that she kept in a box inside her closet.

Everyone suspected my mother-in-law, as she had been the only person outside the family in the house during those days. There were no signs that anyone else had broken in, and my mother clearly remembered that the night before my mother-in-law arrived, she had checked to see if the gold bars were still in their place. But after her departure, the gold bars disappeared.

My wife, upon hearing the accusation, was completely shocked and tried to defend her mother, claiming that she was not the kind of person who would do such a thing. However, the evidence was clear and the situation was obvious: someone had stolen the gold.

My mother, being such a good person, just cried for the loss, without shouting or cursing my wife. She explained to her that if her mother had acted in that way, it was a great disappointment for the whole family.

I decided to ask my wife to call her mother to ask her to return the gold bars. I told her that for the sake of our children, I was willing to forgive her, but that from that moment on, my mother-in-law would not be welcome in our home, nor would any member of her family.

My wife flatly refused to call her mother, continuing with her excuses and denials. Faced with this situation, I became so angry that I decided to write a divorce paper and asked her to leave the house, leaving me with our children. I was convinced that if my wife continued to defend her mother, our children would learn bad values.

It was at that moment that my younger brother, who had been out of town for work, returned. Upon hearing what had happened, he laughed and said to me, “There is nothing difficult about this, let me check the security cameras and we will know who was the culprit.”

The whole family was shocked to learn that my brother had installed cameras in the living room because of some burglaries in the neighborhood. He explained to us that he had thought about the possibility that something could happen, and that was why he had installed them, in case we needed evidence in case of an incident.

What we discovered through the recordings was astonishing: the person who had stolen the gold was not my mother-in-law, as she never entered my mother’s room. The recordings showed that only two people had entered my mother’s room during those days: my mother and my sister.

Watching the footage and hearing the confessions of my sister, who admitted that she had taken my mother’s gold due to financial difficulties, I felt ashamed and guilty for having wrongfully accused my wife. My sister explained that she had taken the gold so that she could cover some urgent expenses, but promised that she would return it as soon as she could.

My mother, devastated by the theft of her own daughter, could only regret what had happened. As for me, I felt very ashamed for having made such a serious accusation against my wife, without having clear evidence.

I apologized to my wife, and my mother also apologized to her, but since then, my wife has been distant and cold towards me. I don’t know what to do to fix things as it seems my wife is not willing to forgive me so easily.
