“Slowly but Steadily” Kate Martin In Just 4 Games of WNBA Debut, Quickly Becomes Aces’ Rising Star…Her Jerseys Are About to Sell Out

Las Vegas Aces rookie Kate Martin has been steadily building her following in the WNBA and has seen her team recently need to re-stock her No. 20 jersey after it was sold out just four games into the WNBA season.

FOX 5 News Las Vegas visited the Aces’ headquarters and caught staff re-stocking Martin’s jersey to be sold at their team shop.

The news outlet said the defending two-time WNBA champions’ merchandise is the top-selling in the WNBA right now.

Kate Martin, who starred at the University of lowa alongside Caitlin Clark back in college, was selected in the second round – No. 18th overall – of this year’s WNBA draft and has become a valuable piece for the Aces in its rotation off the bench.

She has played in five of the team’s six games so far and has been good for 5.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 21 minutes per game.
On Wednesday against the Minnesota Lynx on the road, Martin once again performed well, playing 22 minutes and going 3-of-6 from 3 to finish with nine points, three rebounds and two assists to help her team to an 80-66 victory.

Las Vegas currently leads the Western Conference with a 4-1 win-loss card.

Kate Martin settling well as Aces’ role player for now

A starter for much of her standout collegiate career with the lowa Hawkeyes, Kate Martin has found herself playing as a role player for the back-to-back WNBA champions in her rookie season. She, however, has no qualms about it and said she is settling well.

In an interview with The Gazette, she highlighted how the team’s expectations of her were clear after getting drafted No. 18.

The 23-year-old guard said:

“There are amazing players, star players, Olympic players on this roster. My role is to be a role player, someone who is going to support her teammates every day.”

Kate Martin is one of four players selected in the second round this season that made it to the roster of the team that selected them. The others were Dyaisha Fair (Aces), Nika Muhl (Seattle Storm) and Celeste Taylor (Indiana Fever).

Fair, however, was recently waived by the Aces.

The Las Vegas Aces are on the road next to face the Atlanta Dream (3-2) at Gateway Center Arena on Friday.
