Travis Kelce Fights Back Tears as He Admits What Went Wrong for the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59

Travis Kelce was pretty emotional while admitting he made mistakes that cost his team a Super Bowl on Sunday night.

The star tight end discussed Sunday’s loss with his brother Jason on their post-Super Bowl ‘New Heights’ podcast this week. He appeared to fight back tears as he explained why the Kansas City Chiefs lost.

The AFC champions were unable to complete the three-peat as they were dominated by an inspired Philadelphia Eagles side and lost 40-22 on the night, with Travis making four catches for 39 yards.

With the season now over, the TE has had some time to reflect on what went wrong and confessed that there were some things he should have done better before apologizing to Chiefs fans for “how it ended.”

“Just wasn’t our day,” he said. “Couldn’t find a lick of momentum. I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field.

I wasn’t the best that I could be in motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool and collected and I put a lot of that on myself, you know, as the guy that’s been in the building for 12 years and seen a lot of football and seen a situation just like this, in the Super Bowl.

“It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s a hard reality, man.”

Kelce added he wished he had made better decisions early in the game to help teammate Patrick Mahomes.

“I wish things had went different. I wish I had made better decisions early on to help my guy Pat out and help my team find that momentum and that confidence.

“But you know, I just have to tip my hat to the Eagles.”

Travis Kelce Does Not Care About His New Super Bowl Record

Jason Kelce would point out to his brother that he actually set a new record in Sunday’s game for the most catches in Super Bowl history.

The former Cincinnati standout has 35 total Super Bowl receptions, two more than Jerry Rice’s 33. But it is difficult to care about personal records so soon after losing what would have been a legacy-setting Super Bowl game.

“That’s the last thing that I care about right now,” he said.

It now remains to be seen what Travis Kelce will decide to do in terms of his future.

While clearly no longer the player he used to be, Kelce still has one year remaining on his deal with the Chiefs and could be motivated to return for another shot at glory.

He refused to reveal his plans while speaking to reporters after the game, ducking out while a question was being asked. But we should know soon enough.
