LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant teamed up for the first time wearing Team USA’s jersey, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. They led the USA basketball team to an unbeaten run in the Paris Olympics, ending in a 98-87 victory over France to secure the country’s fifth consecutive gold medal.
This impressive achievement has sparked discussions about a new nickname for this iconic 12-man roster. In the past, the USA has had the “Dream Team” in 1992 and the “Redeem Team” in 2008. After their victory over France, LeBron James took it upon himself to christen this group with a fitting name.
A reporter asked, “There’s the dream team, the redeem team; what’s this team?” LeBron then declared the 2024 USA team as “The Avengers.”
After LeBron declared the name, fans were buzzing on social media. The name had social media buzzing.
“just begs the question, what’s to Avenge? US been winnin’ gold 4 straight (5 straight after today)”
“What are they avenging?”
“Haven’t lost the Olympics in 20 years… what was there to avenge”
“and what were they avenging?”
“What did they “Avenge” tho? They won like 5 straight gold medals lol”
The trio of James, Curry, and Durant delivered stellar performances in the final game. Stephen Curry added 24, and James contributed 14 points and 10 assists. Kevin Durant, who has become a four-time Olympic gold medalist, added 15 points to the scoreboard.
Will LeBron James Play in the Next Olympics?
After the Paris Olympics concluded with Team USA securing another gold medal, basketball fans began to wonder if they would see LeBron James in action again when the Olympics come to Los Angeles in 2028. James gave a cryptic response when asked about the possibility, leaving many guessing.
“I can’t see myself playing in L.A. I didn’t see myself playing in Paris 2024, too. But four years from now, I can’t see it,” James said.
While the Paris Olympics MVP appears to be considering retirement from Olympic play, his teammate Kevin Durant seems less sure about stepping away. Durant remains open to the possibility of continuing his Olympic journey.
“As far as 2028, who knows man? We’ll see,” Durant said.
Stephen Curry also remains undecided about his future Olympic participation. While nothing is certain, fans of Team USA will undoubtedly hope to see this iconic trio come together once more to dominate the court and bring home another gold medal.
