A'ja Wilson

The Las Vegas Aces’ A’ja Wilson continued her remarkable record-shattering season by claiming the latest achievement to add to her resume by snatching it away from the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese in the process.

Wilson, just days after becoming the first player ever in WNBA history to shoot for 1000+ points in season, claimed the honor of the most rebounds set in a single season, a record Reese set just months prior.

She took the record during the Aces’ 85-72 victory over the Seattle Storm at the Climate Pledge Arena as they sealed their second place in the Western Conference days after they booked their ticket to the WNBA playoffs.

As the 28-year-old guided her team to the victory, she posted 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists to push her season averages up to 26.9 points per game, 11.9 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per game.

It also moved her back above Reese’s rebounds record, with the two-time MVP now recording 451 for the campaign and she emotionally hailed her teammate’s roles in her success after the win.

“When I come into work and I see y’all, it changes my whole outlook on life,” Wilson told her Aces’ colleagues through tears in the locker room. “So I am so so so appreciative for y’all.

“I’m nothing without y’all and I’m so grateful. Thank you so much and I appreciate y’all. Never change.”

Reese had been averaging 13.1 rebounds per game with the Sky, before a season-ending wrist injury against the Los Angeles Sparks saw her sidelined and her total score capped at 446 for her debut year.

If the 22-year-old remained fit and performed to her averages, she would have been on course for 524 for the season, as well as 544 points (13.6 per game) and 76 assists (1.9 per game) as she found herself in contention for WNBA Rookie of the Year for most of the season.

Who do the Aces play next?

The Las Vegas Aces and A’ja Wilson are back at home next as they welcome the Dallas Wings to the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Nevada on Thursday, September 19.

The game is expected to tip off at 22:00 ET/19:00 PT as the Aces look to take winning momentum into the WNBA playoffs, which begin on September 22.
