If your workplace has already fallen behind on performances and production this week, blame Super Bowl 59.

The 2024 NFL season concluded with the Philadelphia Eagles defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl 59 on Sunday. Jalen Hurts was named the big game MVP after accounting for three total touchdowns (two receiving, one rushing)as Philly denied KC’s bid for a three-peat.

According to a new Harris Poll, a record 22.6 million Americans had planned to miss work on Monday following the Super Bowl. This is a considerable increase from the 16.1 million employees who skipped work the day after Super Bowl 58 a year ago:

“As the Kansas City Chiefs go for the record-breaking three-peat victory this Sunday, U.S. workplaces could see a record of their own on Monday: employee absences. An estimated 22.6 million employed Americans plan to miss work the day after Super Bowl LIX — up from 16.1 million last year.

This breaks the previous record of 18.8 million U.S. employees who said they’d be out in 2023 — which, coincidentally, was the last time the Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles faced off in the big game.”

Blame hangovers, food comas, general fatigue or just pure laziness. But when people have the freedom to call in sick, many of them are going to take advantage and do it the day after the Super Bowl.
Of course, a good number of those 22.6 million workers are probably Chiefs fans who were simply too upset to show up to work today. After all, it’s not like the Chiefs will ever get the opportunity to complete the first NFL three-peat again.

Eagles Deliver A Near-Perfect Performance In Super Bowl 59

Most people figured the Eagles would have to play near-perfect football to beat the Chiefs, and that if they did so, it would be a one-score game. But Nick Sirianni’s squad had other ideas, as they completely dominated on both sides of the ball in a 40-22 win.

Patrick Mahomes turned the ball over thrice and was sacked six times in the loss. Jalen Hurts operated the offense with precision and efficiency despite a rather quiet day from Saquon Barkley.
