It looks as though the Chicago Sky are ready to move on from star Chennedy Carter after opting not to offer her a new contract ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.

As per Chicago Sun Times, general manager Jeff Pagliocca made offers to restricted free agents Dana Evans, Michaela Onyenwere and Nikolina Milic. Carter, who is also a restricted free agent, was not offered a new contract.

While Carter is coming off a good season for the Sky, she is perhaps best known for making headlines after clashing with Caitlin Clark. During a game between the Sky and the Indiana Fever on June 2, Carter looked to yell “yo b****” at Clark before levelling her with a bodycheck.

What will Reese think?

The decision to move on from Carter is an interesting one as Angel Reese, the Sky’s star player, described her as one of the WNBA’s best guards when she missed games due to illness last August.

It also comes after the Sky decided to fire head coach Teresa Weatherspoon in October after failing to lead the team into the playoffs.

“I can’t imagine playing for the Sky without (Weatherspoon),” Reese told the Chicago Sun Times about the firing. “She’s the one reason I wanted to come here.”

She then continued to voice her displeasure on X: “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life.

“She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me. Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black women in sports when nobody believes in you.”

The Sun Times notes that one of the reasons the Sky are looking to move on from Carter is because Pagliocca and new coach Tyler March want to change the dynamic in the locker room.

The WNBA season is set to begin on May 16, with the Sky and Reese taking on the Fever and Clark a day later.
