Every time Anthony Edwards speaks, the bread goes up. The young Timberwolves star was fined $100,000 by the NBA on Sunday for using profanity during a live television interview, and the league increased the amount after penalizing the Minnesota star for the third time in three weeks for using this type of foul and disrespectful language.

The fine was due to comments the 23-year-old made after the Timberwolves came from behind to win 113-112 on Friday in Houston. The NBA said in the announcement that it was taking into account “Edwards’ history of using inappropriate and profane language” (language that is considered socially offensive for being vulgar, obscene or irreverent) “during media interviews”.

On Monday, he was fined $75,000 for publicly criticizing the officiating, which he called “bullshit” and using profanity, after being fined $25,000 for his comments in the Dec. 6 win at the Warriors.

Obscene gesture on the court

Edwards, twice an All-Star and the Wolves’ leader with averages of 25.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4 assists, was also fined $35,000 on November 17 for making an obscene gesture on the court. These are behaviors that the NBA is not willing to tolerate because of the bad image it gives of the competition and especially to younger fans.
