Chris Russo has ate some humble pie and forced himself to apologize to Caitlin Clark after the ESPN pundit criticized her for attending the Kansas City Chiefs‘ NFL Playoffs game, along with Taylor Swift.

The 22-year-old Indiana Fever player was spotted in the executive boxes with the 35-year-old billionaire as they watched Travis Kelce score a touchdown against the Houston Texans to land a spot in the AFC Championship game in a 23-14 win.

Yet Russo seemed to lose his cool at the fact that the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year ventured to the Arrowhead Stadium on January 18 for some postseason action, believing she previously never indicated liking Patrick Mahomes’ team.

“”I saw Caitlin Clark play, what 50 games in college basketball the last two years,” Russo told SiriusXM Radio on Monday. “I never heard one [Chiefs] reference. I never saw her father with a Chief jersey on. I never saw a Chiefs hat on.

“I heard not one reference in 50 games that she was a Chiefs fan, and then all of a sudden now she’s a big Kansas City fan. Come on, stop, please. I’m Chief’d out. I’m Chief’d out. And now all of a sudden Caitlin Clark is a Chiefs fan?”

However, the moment for the 65-year-old from New York quickly turned embarrassing when his co-host on the radio show produced a photo of the Fever star wearing a Chiefs’ jersey when she was young, long before the team was the dominant force they’ve been since 2019.

“I guess. I guess,” Russo replied when he was asked whether he wants to apologize. “I shouldn’t be picking on Caitlin Clark. I’m Chief’d out.”

When is the AFC Championship game?

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Buffalo Bills at the Arrowhead Stadium in the AFC Championship game on Sunday, January 26.

The winner will book a place at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Kick-off is from 18:30 ET/15:30 PT, live on CBS Sports.
