Brittney Griner had a no-nonsense reaction to a Caitlin Clark fan who taunted the U.S. women’s basketball team ahead of their Olympic opener in Paris.
The fan, donning a half-and-half Brooklyn Nets/Los Angeles Lakers jersey, held up a sign that read, “You need Caitlin Clark to beat us.”

This cheeky message drew the attention of several Team USA players, including A’ja Wilson. Wilson pointed it out to Griner, who responded with a succinct, “Oh wow.”
The absence of Caitlin Clark from the Olympic squad remains a hot topic, even though Team USA has proven their strength without her. In their opening group stage game in Paris, the U.S. women’s team showcased their dominance with a resounding 102-76 victory over Japan. Wilson led the charge with an impressive 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four assists. Breanna Stewart also made a significant impact, contributing 22 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
Griner, coming off the bench, added eleven points and pulled down nine rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu and Kelsey Plum also made their mark, each scoring eleven points in their allotted game time. On the Japanese side, Maki Takada’s standout performance, with 24 points, was overshadowed by her team’s poor shooting, with a dismal 38% from the field.
Looking ahead, Team USA will face Belgium on Thursday, following Belgium’s loss to Germany with a score of 83-69.
