Caitlin Clark Set to Cash In on Shocking $78 Million WNBA Shake-Up with the Fever—Is This the Start of a New Era or a Desperate Move for Attention?

Caitlin Clark’s WNBA team have made an announcement on their plans to build a state-of-the-art facility for their team ahead of the 2027 season.

The Indiana Fever’s new facility will be held for their practises and performance center, while sharing their home arena with the Indiana Pacers, the Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The new facility will be 108,000 square feet and cost around $78 million.

The center will become the fifth to be completed in the WNBA in recent years, with the Fever following suit from the Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm and Phoenix Mercury all have their own facilities – showing the growth of the league in recent years. The Chicago Sky also are in the process of building their own training facilities.

Fever president of basketball operations Kelly Krauskopf said: “For us this represents another level of commitment and ensuring that our players have the highest level of resources to compete. This is an opportunity to showcase our investment in women and women’s sports. We’ve outgrown our current space; we know the footprint of the league is going to grow and we want to stay relevant and ahead of the curve.”

Lexie Hull also commented on the new facility, she said: “We knew it was in the work so to see it finally announced to the public – really, really excited. I think it just shows the dedication that the organization and the city of Indianapolis is really pouring into our team. And I think it’s going to be great for us as players and be great for our team to be able to attract some really great free agents.”

While being one of the more struggling teams in the league over the past seven years, the Fever’s future looks to be extremely bright after selecting Clark first overall in the 2024 draft – going on to have a dominant first year in the league – averaging 19 points and 8 assists a game.

Clark is among the favorites to win the MVP award going into her second season, with the Fever also set to benefit from having a new head coach in Stephanie White – who had surprisingly left the Connecticut Sun after leading them to an impressive second place finish in the regular season

White had been a big fan of Clark’s before she had even entered the WNBA, stating: “She has gotten better every year, she put on six pounds of muscle from a season ago… and she reads the game.”

And after Clark’s first two games in the league, where she had struggled with some asking questions on whether she would live up to the hype, White had said: “She is going to be fine. It’s two games in, are you kidding me? She’s a student of the game, she got better every year. You’re not just going to absorb all of the new information that’s coming at you in two games, in two weeks.”
