Los Angeles Lakers. Lakers land Luka Doncic in blockbuster trade with Mavericks
The Luka Doncic-for-Anthony Davis trade has caused a ripple effect that has extended beyond the NBA. However, few suspect that this move will end up benefiting Caitlin Clark and the WNBA, or at least that is what veteran analyst Jason Whitlock recently claimed.
This past Saturday night, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks shook the sports world by announcing a massive deal involving four other players, a first-round pick, and the Utah Jazz. The analysis was quick to come, trying to figure out who gained more from the exchange.

The consensus among fans and analysts is that the Lakers came out on top, thanks to Doncic’s youth and talent. Whitlock, true to form, dismissed the deal as “rigged,” and claimed that the biggest beneficiary of this agreement would be the WNBA.
What Clark and the Fever gain, according to Whitlock
In a video on X (formerly Twitter), Whitlock reiterated that the WNBA will soon be more popular than the NBA, and this deal will boost that growth. “I know everyone right now is saying, ‘Oh wow, look at this fascinating trade in the NBA. This is incredible.’ It’s going to wear off and then everybody is going to be like, ‘What a rigged deal the NBA is.'”
The analyst assured that this will benefit Clark and the Fever, as people will begin to think “You know, Caitlin Clark, the Indiana Fever and this dream team the Indiana Fever have put together, that’s more interesting than the NBA.”
He recalled that the Fever’s management had rearranged its pieces this offseason, looking to surround Clark with championship-worthy talent. “Sophie Cunningham, of course, love her. Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner Fever loaded. This is a dynasty.”

The NBA isn’t alone in multi-team deals. Last week, Indiana signed Cunningham and Jaelyn Brown via a four-team deal with the Dallas Wings, Phoenix Mercury, and Connecticut Sun.
This deal, coupled with the additions of Howard, Bonner, and a contract extension for Kelsey Mitchell, gives Clark and head coach Stephanie White the foundation for a team that can contend for a championship in the 2025 W season.
