Caitlin Clark, the standout star for the Indiana Fever, was considered a potential candidate for Team USA in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Paris. With several players dealing with injuries, there was a window of opportunity for the rookie to join the squad. However, Clark was ultimately not selected. While she will have to miss this Olympic Games, this period will offer her a chance to rest and focus on her development.

Despite this setback, it’s likely not the last time we’ll see Clark representing her country in the Olympics. As a young and rising talent in professional basketball, she is poised for a bright future. Given her impressive skills and potential to become a major force in the WNBA, Clark will almost certainly get her chance to compete for Olympic gold in the future.

In a recent interview with IndyStar, Clark shared her thoughts on not making the team. She said, “I wouldn’t say I’m bummed. It gives you something to work for, something to dream of. In four years, you can be there. Four years comes fast. That’s your time in college, and I feel like I was just a freshman. It shows you’ve got to start working now if you want that to be your dream in four years. That’s it for me—work hard and hopefully, you can be there. I’m excited for the girls who made the team. I’ll be rooting for them to win gold. I grew up watching the Olympics, so it will be fun to watch.”

Clark’s rookie season in the WNBA has been challenging. She’s faced physical play and fouls that are tougher than what rookies typically experience. However, she views these challenges as a sign of respect and an opportunity to grow. Despite the tough start, Clark is making a significant impact, averaging 17.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Rookie of the Year race is shaping up to be a competitive one between Clark and Angel Reese, a rivalry that has transitioned from college to the WNBA in under a year. Given her talent and determination, it’s only a matter of time before Caitlin Clark gets her chance to shine on the Olympic stage.
