Indiana Fever fans are buzzing with anticipation as free agency looms, hoping their team can add key pieces to build on a promising 2024 WNBA season.

The Fever made significant strides last year, finishing with a 20-20 regular season record and clinching a spot in the playoffs during Caitlin Clark‘s standout rookie campaign.

Scoring wasn’t an issue for the Fever, who averaged 86.6 points per game-the third-highest in the WNBA.

However, fans believe that adding another dynamic playmaker could push Indiana further in their quest for championship contention in 2025.

One name lighting up Fever fans’ social media feeds is Chennedy Carter, a high-scoring guard with proven talent but a history of controversy.

Chennedy Carter availability

Carter, who led the Chicago Sky in scoring in 2024 with averages of 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, became a free agent on Monday after the Sky chose not to extend her qualifying offer.

While her on-court performance was undeniable, reports of locker room tensions and behavioral issues overshadowed her season.

The Sky’s head coach, Teresa Weatherspoon, opted not to address these locker room conflicts publicly, and the decision to part ways with Carter suggests that her presence may have been viewed as more disruptive than beneficial for Chicago’s long-term plans.

Despite these concerns, Carter‘s immense talent has made her an intriguing free-agent target. Fever fans see her as a potential game-changer who could elevate Indiana’s already impressive offense.

Social media has been buzzing with Fever fans lobbying for Carter to join Indiana.

“Chennedy Carter! Come to Indiana! You and the Fever would be unstoppable. Wherever you land, I wish you the best!” one fan wrote.

Another added: “Chennedy Carter would be great on the Fever.”

Carter‘s history is complex. After a stellar college career at Texas A&M, where she averaged 21.3 points per game over three seasons, she entered the 2020 WNBA Draft and was selected fourth overall by the Atlanta Dream.

However, her time in Atlanta ended in controversy when she was suspended indefinitely in 2021 for conduct detrimental to the team.

She was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022 but saw limited action. Carter did not play in the WNBA in 2023 before finding new life with the Sky in 2024.

Now, her future hangs in the balance, with teams weighing her elite scoring ability against the potential risks of off-court issues.
