Is Chappell Roan going country? The pop sensation just announced that her brand-new song, “The Giver,” is dropping at 8 p.m. ET on March 13 and it’s said to be influenced by the music that shaped her upbringing in Missouri.

The 27-year-old shared the news with a post on Instagram that features a photo of her making a smug face at the camera while donning a red hard hat and a bright yellow construction vest.

“@dan_nigro and I wrote this together and it was so fun!!! We’ve never done a country song and I have such a special place in my heart for country music.  I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars,” she shared.

With Chappell Roan entering this new era of her sound, she revealed many fans are wondering if the song will lead to a full country album. Her response to these rumors is “hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun.”

She went on to make it clear that she’s not here to claim herself as a country artist, but instead she’s trying to expand her sound and make the kind of music that feels right to her in the moment.

“’The Giver’ is my take on cuntry xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall *✲☆⋆”

Listeners got their first taste of the country infused track last fall when Chappell Roan appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Life (SNL) and performed “The Giver” along with her Top 10 hit on Billboard, “Pink Pony Club” from her GRAMMY nominated album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

The catchy upbeat tune of “The Giver” offers a bolder and more risqué take on country music storytelling as she claims that no man can compete with her ability to satisfy a woman. During the spoken word portion of the song, she confidently says, “All you country boys saying you know how to treat a woman right…Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman right.”

“So, baby/ When you need the job done/ You can call me, baby/ ‘Cause you ain’t got to tell me/ It’s just in my nature/ So take it like a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver/ Ain’t no need to hurry, ’cause, baby, I deliver/ Ain’t no country boy quitter I get the job done/ I get the job done,” she goes on to deliver on the chorus.

Her latest post joins the series of characters she’s been seen dressing up as on her social media platforms as well as on Billboards across the country, as a way to showcase the kind of people who can “get the job done,” as she sings in the forthcoming release.

Once unveiled, “The Giver” will mark Chappell Roan’s first new release in nearly a year, following “Good Luck, Babe!,” which is still the only track she’s dropped since her 2023 album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess.

The singer/songwriter currently has no U.S. tour dates on her scheduled, but she will be spending August performing internationally across Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, France and the UK.
